Piet Popcorn's CHOICE

Since the late seventies I've been collecting mostly obscure fifties and sixties records. Although most of my record collection consists of 45's without cover there are still enough Lp's to choose from WITH a nice cover. Most of them are American made; they sure knew how to package music!

"The parade of '67 fads, latest model transistors and portable record players, have started dominating the beaches, parks and other locations that offer musical entertainment. Booker T & the MG's were the first to register for participation in this summer's activities" says the liner notes. And although, at beat club, I play the singles versions of some of the songs on this album, the nicely styled cover is here for you to see!

Call it Soul....I'd call it Psychedelica! The Haircuts and the Impossibles play 'Bun Buster', 'Inside Looking Out', 'Sock it My Way' (my favorite) and other tunes with totally wild and crazy guitars, Sitars, Organs.... Heavy Shit, even for the hardcore LSD or Magic Mushroom user!
So be adviced.

The Ska by Mango Jones & his Orchestra with the Harry Ballu Singers is one of the hard-to-find WHITE Ska Records. "The orchestra is considered by many to be the greatest exponend of the new Ska Dance Craze" the liner notes on this Amercan LP say.....Yeah sure...But guess what, It sounds OK concidering it's not Jamaican. My favorite is the song Turtle Fish.

Hugo Montenegro made sure he was at the photo shoot of this Spy-fi Album with great cover. James Bond, I Spy, Secret Agent Man....Hugo can't help himself recording this kind of stuff... "The Music Punctuates the Drama....It also Entertains"
...Super Obscure!

The Roland Shaw Orchestra plays Themes for Secret Agents. James Bond covers on the outstanding Phase 4 Stereo system. The guy on the cover looks an awful lot like a young Sean Connery, good casting job... No favorite song on this one but the bikini girl really stands out for me...

Destination Baghdad by Artie Barsamian and his Orchestra. Late Fifties Record...
Some Americans obviously already knew what would happen in the Nineties and 2003...!!!
Real Good Exotic/Belly Dance Album. Come to beat club to hear 'Road to Baghdad', or 'Destination Baghdad for yourself!

"With Boogaloo In Apartment 41 by Ozzie Torrens and his Exciting Orchestra you'll enjoy the exciting Boogaloo Beat and it's unforgettable songs...and your friends will also be caught up in the exciting Boogaloo madness of the atmosphere"

This is one LP I just bought for the beautiful cover! The old, slow jazzy/bluesy music is not really my style. But these Blues and Yellows do it for me every time!

Shock! Terror! Fear!
"The Monster Maestro Frankie Stein is a graduate of the massoleum of music at the University of Paris Green. He plays guitar with three hands and conducts with the other two!. He is DEAD serious about his music. Many critics have hailed him as "hideous"..."Ghastly"..."horrormonious"...etc. etc. etc."
My favorite instrumental on this album is 'The Ghostman Rings Twice'.
